28 June 1945 Time For a Bit of R & R

With V-E Day occurring last month, soldiers at Barrackpore are now being allowed some time to rest up a bit.  Locations indicated in the orders included:
  • WP US Army Rest Camp #7, Ranikhet, India
  • WP US Army Rest Camp #2, Darjeeling, India
  • WP Jalapahar Rest Camp, Darjeeling, India
These were all 15-day assignments as a duty station, and thus were not counted as leave. The orders also mentions that TDY payments were not authorized.

Meanwhile, APO 492 took the time for inventory.  Eleven officers were appointed Inventory Officers "for the purpose of inventor[y]ing the messes indicated...".

And one lucky person got 20 days leave to visit Mysore, India. Hopefully it was for good reasons.

Soldiers included in the orders:

13 Jun 1944 -- Various Duty Assignments from HQ CBI ASC

Various assignments were consolidated today in an order affecting 50 or so soldiers. One was granted leave of absence, another assigned two civilian representatives to different APO's. No mention of location was made--one had to know which number meant which location. Here are a few examples:

1. Mr. Haldeman, WP by first available mil acft and/or ral T, fr APO 671 [Calcutta headquarters] to APO 629 [Chabua] and such other stations within this theater... Mr. Haldeman was a Homelite Technical Rep. Homelite made portable electric generators in WW2.

2. Mr. Collins and Mr. Seels, Technical Reps for Sperry, were assigned to APO 491 [Bangalore] and such other stations within this theater...Sperry was well known for gyroscopes and bombsights in the war.

3. Multiple enlisted men are "trfd in gr to Hq Sq, CBI ASC, and will remain on DS with the 5317th Air Depot Hq (Provisional), for dy with the Sig Sec." (transferred in group to HeadQuarters Squadron China-Burma-India ASCenter, and will remain on Duty Station with the 5317th Air Depot Headquarters (Provisional) for duty with the Signal Section)
